Gary Nabhan

Several of you have written to me about my nano-review of Frances Moore Lappe's new book, Eco Mind. One of those people was Gary Nabhan, who said, "Frankie is a wonderfully restless thinker seldom resting on laurels." I hope Gary doesn't mind being quoted. And besides, those words could equally apply to Gary. He has written many lovely books, the most recent is an adventure with chili peppers. And talk about a restless mind! Gary has literally invented some contemporary areas of serious work in and around the preservation of a safe and healthy food supply. And oh my, Gary is not serious about everything - he's a good time waiting to happen. Once many years ago he and I attended a reading by Terry Tempest Williams. Most of the the people there were very earnest. The group's solemnity provoked Gary and I, seated in the last row, to cut up a bit. I still treasure the memory of being kicked out........
