Time to Talk About the Weather

Time to talk about the weather. The marsh is in a transition, which means more birds. The resident great blue is back closer to the house. The bird book says great blues migrate but a few don’t and they mostly die over the winter. This bird has evidently not read the book. I always tell people the marsh is beautiful every single day and that’s fair and it’s true, but right now it's brown and cold – not like the height of summer with a thousand shades of green and a softness that you can fall into right through the window. The marsh now is kind of creepy, Vincent Price-like. The smell is good though, rotting vegetation makes it smell more alive somehow. And rotting vege is everything - the basis for all the salt marsh life, plants and animals.
