50 Words for Snow

I was at a meeting yesterday where most of the people - real Maine people, not transplants - were sharing their plans to head south for the winter.

Here on the marsh we make other kinds of plans, more of the hunkering down kind. These pictures from today show the geese and the dogs as they feverishly prepare for the onset of harsh weather.

As everyone knows, snowed-in cabins need a theme song to play all winter. Over the long dark months, each note seeps into your skin until by the time spring arrives, you're inoculated against ever hearing that song again. This year's Cabin Fever On The Marsh Soundtrack is Kate Bush's amazing 50 Words for Snow, from the album of the same name. Check it out.
